Who We Are.
Imagine that every time you went into a cafe, a clothing boutique, or bought something online, that transaction was being used to support to charity, was being used to support the movers and the shakers, was being used to support the organizations working to make your community, your country, and your planet a better place for all of us.
Commerce for Change is challenging all businesses to donate per transaction to charity. We are challenging all businesses to donate a percentage of their per transactional proceeds or sales, to participate in One for One giving, to practice in Upcycle giving, or to practice in Community Empowerment. By challenging the structure of capitalism, in particular how we react to the imperatives of commerce and respond to the principles of philanthropy, we can facilitate the increase of corporate giving by a billion dollars annually. The idea isn’t to recreate philanthropy, it’s to foster a new source for it.
Our mission is simple: to weave philanthropy into the fabric of our economy, connecting the acts of commerce with the acts of giving by linking the shoppers’ actions to the corporations’ philanthropic reactions, to the businesses’ altruistic responsibilities. In doing so we are creating a movement, not on the notion of, ‘I want to help, what can I do?’ But on the understanding that ‘I have to buy something, how I can help!’ So the next time you head out to the store, don’t just shop, think how can I help by shopping with our certified members, make your next purchase count.
